Intergenerational Projects

Ministry with older adults is something that can spark interest in all ages - children’s classes, youth groups, college and young adults, and men and women with interest in becoming a volunteer. Here are some ideas you may want to consider for your church.

Intergenerational Projects

Secret Pal Program

Secretly adopt assisted living or skilled nursing residents in a Westminster community.   Sending cards or small useful gifts are inexpensive ways to brighten up a person’s life.   At end of the year, those involved host a gathering where Secret Pal is revealed to the resident.

Oral History Project

Enlist a Youth Group, college, or young adults group to get acquainted with residents and help write down residents oral history.   Resident photos, old and new, could be included.  The project would culminate in providing a written history for the resident. Additional copies could be made for residents’ family members.

Reading Program

Encourage a youth group to get to know older adults through reading to low vision residents in an assisted living or nursing home.

Craft Project

Those interested in crafts, and their children, can spend time making some interesting crafts and bringing enjoyment to residents of an assisted living or nursing home.

Girl Scout or Boy Scout Program

Hold troop meetings at a nearby Westminster community and arrange for scouts to interact with residents while earning badges or awards.

Choirs and Ensembles

Arrange for music groups to sing or play for Vespers or special event at a Westminster community.
