Recognition was long overdue for Westminster Oaks resident Virginia Wise. During World War II, she served as a member of the Women's Air Force Service Pilots — WASPs — the first American females to fly military planes, ferrying them to military bases and training male aviation troops. With family by her side, Virginia was one of 180 surviving members to receive the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor, in a special ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. We congratulate Virginia and thank her for her great service to our nation.
